Zena

Anwar and Atta are the parents of four beautiful children: Fatima (8 years old), Muhammed (6 years old), Maria (3 years old), and Zena (6 months old). We came into contact with this family as Zena is needing urgent medical evacuation. Zena has been diagnosed with large patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) causing abnormal blood flow and significant strain on her heart. She is also severely malnourished. Her evacuation is being advocated for by Rebuilding Alliance, and Zena is also being supported on a monthly basis with formula, diapers, and other basics by Little Lights (formerly Gaza Little Lights). This family currently lives in a tent. The children wear worn out clothing, have no toys, and regularly do not eat nutritious meals. Their mother, Anwar, is exhausted from the emotional and physical toll of caring for children without basic necessities. She is particularly impacted by Zena’s health condition, knowing that, without medical intervention outside of Gaza, her baby will continue having serious infections, fluid in her lungs, and difficulty gaining weight, among other dangerous health complications. Further to this, older sister Fatima suffers from regular seizures. Prior to the war, she took anti-seizure medication, however, the medication has become too expensive ($150 a month, as of 4/16/26).

Most needed support

The family needs ongoing support to provide the children with food, clothes, medicine, transportation to and from the hospital for Zena, and other basic needs to create a safe and healthy life for their small children. Despite all of their hardship, the children’s simple request when asked is to have fruit.
